The Ardnahoe Fèis Ìle 2026 is the distillery’s oldest release to date: a 7 Year Old single malt matured in ex-bourbon barrels, bottled at its natural cask strength of 59.7% ABV. Just 830 individually numbered bottles were released at £85, capped at three per customer, sold at the distillery on Ardnahoe Day, 27 May 2026. What makes it worth chasing isn’t the festival scarcity, it’s the worm tub distillation behind it, which gives Ardnahoe a heavier, meatier spirit than almost any other Islay malt. With the on-island release now sold, attention turns to Scottish independents reselling at a premium.
Who is Ardnahoe?
Ardnahoe is owned by independent bottler Hunter Laing and began distilling on Islay’s north-east coast in 2019, making it one of the island’s youngest distilleries. It sits between Bunnahabhain and Caol Ila, looking across to Jura.
Its defining production choice is worm tub condensers, the only Islay distillery to use them, which is why these early festival releases double as a public record of how an unusually heavy Islay spirit matures year on year.
Why the worm tubs change what’s in your glass
Ardnahoe is the only islay distillery still condensing spirit through worm tubs rather than the shell-and-tube condensers that became industry standard decades ago. The difference isn’t cosmetic.
Worm tubs run warmer, which means less copper contact during condensation. Less copper contact means more sulphur compounds survive into the new make spirit, producing a heavier, meatier distillate. Shell-and-tube condensers strip more of that character out, giving you a cleaner, lighter spirit.
At seven years in ex-bourbon barrels, with no finish switch and no cask blend, the 2026 release is the clearest window yet into what Ardnahoe’s new make actually becomes with time. The bourbon wood will have added vanilla, caramel and light oak. Whether the worm tub character is still pushing through underneath is the interesting question.
What the year-on-year pattern tells you
This is the third consecutive Fèis Ìle release from Ardnahoe, and each one has added a year of age in the same cask type. The 2024 release was 5 years old. The 2025 was 6 years old at 59.8% ABV from first-fill bourbon barrels. Now 7 years, 59.7% ABV, same wood.
The ABV drop of 0.1% is just natural evaporation variance. The consistency of cask type is the point. You’re not comparing across exotic finishes or different maturation regimes. You’re watching one distillery’s spirit age, year by year, in controlled conditions. That’s rare for a distillery only operating since 2019.
Reviewers of the 2025 6-year-old found vanilla, smoke, brine and pepper at cask strength, with the oak still relatively assertive and opinions divided on whether the spirit had quite found its footing yet. A year more contact with the wood, on a spirit that was already showing character, should tip the balance.

How to get a bottle on May 27
Ardnahoe Day runs from 12pm to 5pm on Wednesday 27th May. A free shuttle runs from Persabus field from 11am. Food vendors and live music from Skerryvore will be on site in the afternoon.
Tasting tickets, which sold out in two batches in April, gave holders a dedicated purchase window before the public release. If you don’t have a tasting ticket, you join the queue at 12pm with everyone else. Three bottles per customer, and 830 bottles across the full day means this won’t last to closing time.
Distillery manager David Livingstone will lead a tasting of six Ardnahoe expressions on the day, including the 2026 festival release.
If you can’t get to Islay
Previous Ardnahoe festival releases have reached specialist retailers in the weeks after Fèis Ìle, typically at a premium over the distillery RRP. If you’re watching from outside the island, it’s worth registering with a few Scottish independents now rather than searching after the fact.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Ardnahoe Fèis Ìle 2026?
It is Ardnahoe’s third annual Fèis Ìle festival bottling and its oldest release to date: a 7 Year Old Islay single malt matured in ex-bourbon barrels, bottled at cask strength. Limited to 830 individually numbered bottles, it was released at the distillery on 27 May 2026.
What does the Ardnahoe Fèis Ìle 2026 taste like?
No official tasting notes have been published yet. Based on the 2025 6 Year Old, expect vanilla, light smoke, brine and pepper at cask strength, with the worm tub spirit giving a heavier, meatier backbone than most young Islay malts. A year more bourbon-cask contact should add balance.
How much does the Ardnahoe Fèis Ìle 2026 cost?
The distillery price was £85 for a 70cl bottle at 59.7% ABV. That sits at the lower end for an Islay festival exclusive. With the on-island allocation sold, specialist retailers reselling it are likely to charge a premium above the £85 RRP.
Where can I buy the Ardnahoe Fèis Ìle 2026?
The 830 bottles sold only at the distillery on 27 May 2026. If you missed it, previous Ardnahoe festival releases have reached Scottish independent retailers in the weeks afterwards, usually above RRP. Register with a few specialists rather than searching after stock appears.
Why does Ardnahoe use worm tubs?
Worm tubs are an older condensing method that runs warmer, allowing less copper contact during condensation. That leaves more sulphur compounds in the spirit, producing a heavier, meatier distillate. Ardnahoe is the only Islay distillery still using them, which defines its house style.
Is the Ardnahoe Fèis Ìle 2026 cask strength?
Yes. It is bottled at its natural cask strength of 59.7% ABV, with no reduction. The 0.1% drop from the 2025 release’s 59.8% is normal evaporation variance, not a recipe change, since both share the same ex-bourbon maturation.
