Teeling is putting its Small Batch whiskey in a can. Teeling Phoenix Twist, the Dublin distiller’s first ready-to-drink cocktail, is a 250ml can at 6% ABV that blends Teeling Small Batch whiskey with ginger, lime and a twist of yuzu It debuts on 29 August, the same weekend American college football returns to the Aviva Stadium, before a wider rollout across Irish retailers and off-licences. Teeling has quoted a retail price of €4.50 (about $5.25). National retail expansion is planned for 2027.

What Phoenix Twist actually is

This is a premium canned cocktail rather than a whiskey expression, and Teeling is clear about the audience: the brand describes it as “created for a new generation of whiskey drinkers.”

The build is a highball in a can. Teeling Small Batch, the brand’s flagship blend finished in ex-rum casks, sits under crisp ginger, lime and a hint of yuzu. The citrus and ginger are doing the lifting here, with the whiskey providing the backbone rather than the spotlight. At 6% ABV in a 250ml format, it is pitched squarely at convenience and occasion, not contemplation.

Why Teeling is doing this now

Two things sit behind this launch. The first is ownership. In June 2026, Bacardi moved to full ownership of Teeling, having taken a minority stake in 2017 and a majority position in 2022. Bacardi knows the ready-to-drink category well, and a canned cocktail is a natural early move for a global owner looking to widen how an Irish whiskey brand reaches drinkers.

The second is the category itself. Ready-to-drink is one of the fastest-moving parts of the spirits market, and whiskey has been slower into cans than vodka or tequila. Ruth Dunne, marketing manager at Teeling, framed the launch around convenience: “Today’s consumers desire and expect convenience without sacrificing taste.” Putting Small Batch into a highball format is a way to meet drinkers at a barbecue, a stadium or a festival, where a bottle and a jigger are not practical.

There is a marketing engine attached too. Phoenix Twist launches alongside Teeling’s renewed partnership with the Aer Lingus College Football Classic, now extended through 2028, with the brand serving as the event’s official Irish whiskey partner for a fourth year. The can arrives on game day at the Aviva Stadium and at Teeling’s own distillery in Newmarket Square, tying the product to Dublin’s role as the European home of American college football.

Who Teeling is, briefly

Teeling was founded in 2012 by brothers Jack and Stephen Teeling, and its Newmarket Square distillery opened in 2015 as the first new distillery in Dublin in over 125 years. That revival story is central to the brand’s identity as the “Spirit of Dublin,” and it exports to more than 80 markets. Master distiller and blender Alex Chasko, an American based in Dublin, remains at the blending desk. Following the Bacardi acquisition, the founding brothers stay involved as strategic advisors.

For a house built on that distilling-revival narrative, a mainstream canned cocktail is a genuine widening of the range rather than a core-range release. It sits alongside the Small Batch and the distillery’s single malts as an entry point, aimed at the whiskey-curious and the event crowd rather than the collector.

Where and when you can buy it

Phoenix Twist debuts on 29 August at the Aviva Stadium, the Teeling Whiskey Distillery and other game-day events in Dublin. From there it rolls out in selected retailers and off-licences across Ireland. Teeling has signalled a broader national retail push in 2027.

International drinkers will need to wait. Asked about markets beyond Ireland, Dunne said the focus is on the Irish launch for now, while noting Teeling is “always looking at how to meet different consumers’ tastes and occasions in markets worldwide.” For readers outside Ireland, this is one to watch rather than one to order, at least until 2027.

Who it’s for

If you like a whiskey ginger highball and want it cold, cheap and portable at a game or a festival, Phoenix Twist is built for exactly that moment. It is an easy, citrus-forward can at a friendly price, and it does a sensible job of introducing Teeling to drinkers who might never buy a bottle first.

If you are looking for the Small Batch experience itself, reach for the bottle. A 6% canned highball is a different proposition, and it is meant to be. This is Teeling opening a door, not replacing what is behind it.
