The Last Dance: A Night of Irish Legends Teeling whisky tasting at Frederiksberg Basement

There is a specific kind of magic that happens when Irish soul meets Danish hospitality. On the evening of March 12th, 2026, that magic took the form of a golden liquid.

Under the beautiful vaulted ceilings of the Frederiksberg Basement, a sold-out crowd gathered for a bittersweet milestone: “The Last Dance.” This wasn’t just another tasting; it was the final, grand collaboration between the iconic Juuls Whisky Shop and Teeling Whiskey, designed to showcase the very last of the rare, older stocks available in Denmark.

The Story of the Resurrection of Irish whiskey

The room went quiet as Darran Lovely from Teeling took the floor. Darran didn’t just pour whiskey; he poured history. He led us through the golden era of Irish whiskey, the heartbreaking “Big Crash” that nearly silenced the industry, and the defiant resurrection led by the Teeling brothers. It was a story of workmanship and survival, proving that while history can be lost, it can also be reclaimed—one cask at a time.

🥃 The Program: A Journey Through the Vaults of Teeling whiskey

We tasted a range that most enthusiasts only see in textbooks. Here is the lineup that defined the night:

The Heritage Giants

  • Teeling Whiskey 32 Years (Rum & PX Cask)
    • The undisputed star of the night. Despite its incredible age, the texture was remarkably “easy-drinking” and silky. The influence of the Rum and Pedro Ximénez casks created a deep, tropical complexity that left the room in awe.
  • Teeling Whiskey 30 Years Vintage Reserve 2021
    • A masterclass in elegance. This 1991 distillate, finished in Sauternes wine casks, brought velvety notes of peach and apricot.

The Rising Reserve Series of Irish whiskey

  • Teeling Rising Reserve No. 2 on Marsala cask
  • Teeling Rising Reserve No. 4 on white wine cask
    • Tasting these two 21-year-olds side-by-side was a revelation. While they share a lineage, the maturation environment played a massive role; we noticed distinct sea notes and a salty maritime influence on one that contrasted beautifully with the bright tropical fruits of the other.

The Wonders of Wood (Experimental Oak) from Teeling whiskey

  • 2nd Edition: Portuguese Oak
  • 3rd Edition: Virgin Swedish Oak
    • A fascinating deep dive into how different forests impact the spirit. The Portuguese Oak brought savory marmalade and tannins, while the Swedish Oak offered a more robust, herbal, and ginger-led profile.

The Bold & The Modern whiskey from Teeling

  • Teeling Blackpitts Big Smoke – Cask Strength
    • The heavy hitter. This double-distilled peated single malt brought intense bonfire smoke and “big” campfire vibes to the cellar.
  • Teeling IPA Cask – DOT Brewing Collaboration Edition
    • A brilliant nod to modern Irish craft culture, showing how hops and malt can dance together in a whiskey cask.

The Final Pour Teeling whiskey in Denmark

As the evening wound down, it felt less like an end and more like a celebration of a job well done. “The Last Dance” honored the craftsmanship of the past while toasting to the future of Irish whiskey.

The crowd was truly amazed by the depth of the 30 and 32-year-old bottles, but more importantly, we left with a deeper connection to the stories Darran shared. It was the perfect ending to a legendary partnership between Juuls and Teeling.
