The spirit in this bottle went into cask in the late 1990s, while Aston Martin was sketching the Project Vantage concept that would become the Vanquish. Almost three decades later, the two have met again in a glass. Glenfiddich 28 Year Old Aston Martin is the oldest age statement yet in the Speyside distillery’s regular run of releases with the British carmaker, and it lands in January 2027.

In short: Glenfiddich 28 Year Old Aston Martin is a limited-edition single malt Scotch whisky created by Glenfiddich Malt Master Brian Kinsman, with packaging developed alongside Aston Martin’s design team. It marries whisky from American oak given a second spell in virgin American oak, European oak hogsheads seasoned with Oloroso sherry, and traditional ex-bourbon casks. It is bottled at 43.7% ABV and goes on sale from January 2027 at selected US retailers and in leading international airport outlets (700ml in travel retail).

What is Glenfiddich 28 Year Old Aston Martin?

It is the latest bottling from a partnership that began in November 2024, when Glenfiddich became official partner of the Aston Martin Formula One Team at the Las Vegas Grand Prix. In 2025 the tie-up widened into a global partnership covering Aston Martin’s road cars as well.

The previous releases sat at a very different level. A limited 16 Year Old came first, followed by a 19 Year Old for global travel retail in September 2025 (with a Montilla wine cask influence, £130 RRP) and a five-cask 16 Year Old Release No. 2 in August 2026 at around $80. Those were bottles you picked up on the way to a race weekend.

The 28 Year Old is something else: a collector’s single malt with an age statement deep into Glenfiddich’s rare territory, and a story built around time rather than speed.

Inside the casks: virgin oak meets Oloroso

The most interesting decision Brian Kinsman made here is the virgin oak. One component started life in American oak and then moved into virgin American oak, wood that had never held whisky before. Fresh, highly active oak pushes vanilla sweetness and spice hard, and using it on spirit that is already approaching three decades old takes a steady hand.

Alongside that sits whisky from European oak hogsheads seasoned with Oloroso sherry, which brings the richer, darker layer. Traditional ex-bourbon casks complete the marriage and keep the pear and orchard fruit that Glenfiddich drinkers will recognise from the 12 Year Old upwards.

Kinsman describes working with highly active casks as a chance to explore how different layers of oak could stack up without burying the distillery’s fruit. That is the tension to watch for in the glass: oak intensity on one side, Glenfiddich brightness on the other.

At 43.7% ABV, it sits a touch above the 43% Glenfiddich uses for most of its older and partnership bottlings, which suggests the strength was chosen to suit the liquid rather than a house standard.

Glenfiddich 28 Year Old Aston Martin tasting notes

We have not tasted this one yet. The notes below are Glenfiddich’s own.

Glenfiddich 28 Year Old Aston Martin: official tasting notes

Nose: Creamy toffee, vanilla shortcake, candyfloss. With a few drops of water: burnt orange and marmalade

Palate: Soft and mellow texture, pronounced oak tannins, vanilla sweetness

Finish: Long and oaky, with a tangy, warming spice

ABV: 43.7% | Casks: American oak and virgin American oak, Oloroso-seasoned European oak hogsheads, ex-bourbon

The water note is worth paying attention to. If you are lucky enough to open a bottle, taste it neat first, then add water a drop at a time and look for that shift towards bitter orange.

The Aston Martin side: Podium Green and copper

Aston Martin’s design team worked on the presentation rather than the liquid. The bottle and box carry the carmaker’s Podium Green with copper finishes and Glenfiddich’s stag emblem, and the case is sculpted with flowing lines meant to suggest an Aston Martin in motion.

The timeline gives the collaboration its hook. The casks were filled in the late 1990s, the same period that produced the Project Vantage concept (the basis of the Vanquish) and the V12-powered DB7 Vantage. Both brands describe their shared idea as perpetual motion, and Kinsman says he wanted to bring that philosophy to life in this whisky.

Stefano Saporetti, Director of Brand Diversification at Aston Martin, calls the release a collector’s piece built on craftsmanship, creativity and continual refinement. Rufus Parkinson, Managing Director for Global Travel Retail at William Grant & Sons, frames it as an addition to the travel retail whisky shelf that combines real age with design credentials.

Who makes Glenfiddich?

Glenfiddich was built by William Grant and his family in Dufftown, in the heart of Speyside, and the spirit first ran from its stills on Christmas Day 1887. Speyside is the Scotch whisky region along the River Spey in north-east Scotland, home to more distilleries than any other region and generally associated with fruit-forward, unpeated single malt. You can read more in our guide to the [whisky regions of Scotland](INTERNAL: whisky-regions-of-scotland pillar).

The distillery is still owned by William Grant & Sons, which remains family-controlled, and Glenfiddich is one of the most widely sold single malts in the world. Brian Kinsman has held the Malt Master role since 2009 and has built much of the brand’s experimental range, including the Experimental Series and the Grand Series.

That continuity matters here. A 28 year old marriage of three cask styles depends on decades of cask planning, and very few distilleries have the stock depth to build a release like this around a partnership.

Price and availability

It goes on sale from January 2027 at selected retailers across the US and at leading international airport outlets through global travel retail, where it comes in a 700ml bottle.

Glenfiddich has not yet published official UK or euro pricing, or a travel retail price. The number of bottles has not been disclosed.

If you are outside the US, the realistic routes are major airport duty free shops from January 2027 and specialist online retailers that ship internationally once stock arrives. Given how quickly the earlier Aston Martin bottlings appeared on the secondary market, we would not wait long.

Is Glenfiddich 28 Year Old Aston Martin worth it?

What makes it more than a pretty box is the cask recipe. Virgin oak on 28 year old spirit is a bold call, and balancing it with Oloroso and bourbon casks is exactly the kind of composition Glenfiddich’s stock allows. If you love older Glenfiddich and want to see how far Kinsman can push active oak while keeping the fruit, this is the bottle to track down.

It is for collectors of the Glenfiddich and Aston Martin series, fans of mature Speyside with real oak structure, and anyone looking for a landmark gift bottle. If you mainly want a well-aged Glenfiddich to open on a Tuesday, the younger partnership releases and the core older age statements remain the sensible starting point.
